Highlights from Opening Day Picnic

Opening Day Picnic was a great success!

Thank you to everyone who signed up for Summer Reading 2024. It was a record day with 179 children registering for summer reading.

2024 Program Details June 15 - August 17

All participants ages 2 - 17 sign up and keep track of books read on Read Squared

Download the Read Squared app to your phone (iphone or android) if you’d like or simply record your progress on a computer at tenaflylibrary.readsquared.com/ - click the Read  Squared logo on this page.

  • 1 book = 1 bead for necklace (prek-grade 5)

  • 1 book = 100 points toward a raffle ticket (1 picture book = 50 points)

  • 1 approved book review = 100 points

  • 500 points = 1 raffle ticket

  • 1 extra raffle ticket for each additional 300 points. Maximum 1 prize per participant.

At registration, children receive a necklace and take-home bead tracker. Readers earn colored beads by reading different book genres. Return to the library with your bead tracker to claim beads and get a new bead tracker.

Bead pick up: Mon. to Fri. 3:30 - 5 pm & Sat. 11 am - 1 pm

Adults participate by reading a book with one of the monthly keywords in the title. Fill out a raffle ticket in the library upon completion of each book for a chance to win a prize.

Explore Biodiversity Smartphone Lens Kit

Biodiversity is an important marker for an ecosystem’s health. Use your smartphone and clip-on lenses to take and share detailed pictures of nature and help create a living record of life on Earth. Sharing your observations on iNaturalist (a free app you download), you’ll create research-quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature.

Available to check out for 1 week.

Measuring Light in the Night Kit

Too much light pollution can wash out starlight in the night sky, interfere with astronomical research, disrupt ecosystems, have adverse health effects, and waste energy. Use the special light meter to measure light pollution and report it to Globe at Night, an international citizen science project to help scientists understand the impact of light pollution.

Bring along your favorite stuffed toy or blanket. Listen to stories and sing songs guaranteed to help you unwind after a busy day in this relaxed evening storytime.

 

Toddler Tales, ages 2 - 5

Tuesday, 11 am, June 18 - August 13

You'll hear stories, sing songs, and play games in this interactive storytime. Have fun with your toddler while they practice their language and gross motor skills.

Musical Storytime with Mr. Corbitt

Adventure activities throughout the building while the library is closed to the public

 

Become a Library Adventure Camper. You'll make s'mores, play games, navigate obstacles and most importantly have FUN!

Gather your friends.....pick your team.....it's time for CUPCAKE WARS.

 

We provide each team with cupcakes, icing, TONS of edible decorating options, and basic utensils. You decorate your cupcakes to match the theme. Just to make it a bit more exciting, we'll give your team a challenge during the competition. The challenge may be different for each team.

 

At the end of the night all participants vote for their favorite cupcakes in a number of categories. Votes will be tallied and bragging rights will be awarded.

If teams include children ages 5 and under, an adult must also be a member of the team.

Step into the fantastical world of Dungeons & Dragons at Tenafly Public Library! Join Ms. Lydia for an immersive adventure where your imagination knows no bounds.
