ESL Classes for Adults

The Tenafly Public Library offers group tutoring and conversation classes.  Classes continue through the school year.

Classes are currently full but we will begin accepting registration requests for 2023-2024 classed in August 

Tenafly Library account holders can learn English with Rosetta Stone.

Book Groups & Literary Clubs for Adults

Afternoon Book Club: 2nd Thursdays 11:30 am

  • Copies of the current book can usually be picked up at the service desk the week of the previous month's meeting.

  • On hiatus in July and August.

Book Talks!: 3rd Tuesday at 7:00 pm
(meets bimonthly -

  • Registration is required.

  • In this group, members share great book suggestions with each other.

  • This is a great club for readers who are looking for new authors or genres or simply like to talk about books.

Cookbook Club: Mondays at 6:00 pm -- special activities on other days
(meeting or take-home activity monthly -
find the next meeting date)

  • Members check out a cookbook from the Service Desk prior to the meeting. 

  • Each member makes one of the recipes in the book and brings samples for other members to taste.​

  • Some months members take kits home to create recipes with a new spice, plant herbs in a pot or other food-themed activities

Culture, Education & Entertainment for Adults

Crafternoons: Thursdays at 2:00 pm

(meets monthly - find the next meeting date)

  • A different project using different skills and supplies each month. 

  • No experience is necessary and all materials are supplied unless specifically noted.

  • Registration is required. 

Concerts Sponsored by the Tenafly Library Friends
(Sunday afternoons in the fall and spring)

  • Registration is not required.

  • Come early as seating is limited for these extremely popular concerts.

Foreign Policy Discussion Group: 1st Mondays at 7:30 pm - 1 pm Dec, Jan, Feb
(meets monthly)

  • Registration is not required. 

  • This group belongs to the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)  which is a national, grassroots foreign policy discussion program that was founded in 1918.  

  • Monthly topics are selected from annual Great Decisions Briefing Book which is published by the FPA.

  • On hiatus in July and August.

Lectures and Workshops

  • Special one-time only events like, Meal Planning for Good Nutrition, Introduction to Chinese Caligraphy, and the Manhattan Short Film Festival take place each month.

Knitting Club

(meets at 10am - usually 1st Monday each month)

  • Bring your own project or start a new one.

  • We have a limited supply of yarns and needles to help beginners get started.

  • Instruction & advice provided by experienced knitters.

  • Crocheters welcome

Paint Nites: Thursdays at 5 pm

(meets at 7 pm - usually Thursday at  7pm quarterly

  • Create your own painting on canvas while following along with a paint video and with help from our staff.

  • Paint, brushes and canvas supplied.

  • Beginners welcome.

Tech Tutoring: Wednesdays

(meets several times each month - find the next available appointment date)

  • Everything you wanted to know about tech but were afraid to ask. 

  • Learn to use Libby to read ebooks, set up and use an email account and more

  • Individual 1/2 hour appointment at 10:30am, 11:00am, 2:00pm or 2:30pm

  • Bring your own device fully charged.

  • Registration is required.

Library of Things - Your library is more than books

Borrow more than just books from your library.  Our Library of Things is available to Tenafly Library cardholders only.  All items must be picked up and returned to the Tenafly Library. Most items can be checked our for 2 weeks. (Museum passes are checked out for 2 days.)
